We all know that summer is the time for sun, friends, pool parties, fireworks, picnics, campouts, AND FLEAS! Over the past few months Wondercide has been asked repeatedly “How do I get rid of them? Nothing I have used in the past is working this year!” And while many of the questions are coming from the entire nation, the vast majority of inquiries are from the sunny state of Florida. Results from a 2002 study may provide insight as to why Florida is such a hotspot for fleas (and/or ticks). The study showed that Boca Raton, FL was #1 in projected flea populations with 5 other south Florida cities ranking in the top 10, including Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Tampa, Sarasota, and Orlando. With high humidity, high temperatures, and large amounts of rainfall, Florida is the ideal place for a flea infestation. So how, then, do we get rid of fleas?
What Wondercide says is…….”Treating and MAINTAINING the environment will knock out your insect population.”
Fleas, like most organisms, work in LIFE CYCLES. And while the adult fleas are the culprits bothering our animals, invading our homes, and attacking us, getting rid of them WILL NOT remedy the problem! Only 5% of the visible population of fleas are adults. The other 95% are in either egg, pupae, or larvae stages. Just imagine, for every adult flea you see, there are 100 more in the early stages of life. Growing. Waiting to make YOU their next victim. If that doesn’t make you squirm I don’t know what does!

Now, in order to get rid of the fleas (and their offspring), the life cycle MUST be broken. This can be done using Wondercide’s revolutionary bio-technology. All facets of the property, the pet, or the person must be treated. And with Wondercide’s non-toxic, 100% effective solutions fleas will be a long lost memory! Use Wondercide’s EcoTreat Pro for lawn/garden/outdoor pest control treatments, BioDefense for indoor pest control, and Evolv for getting rid of fleas on pets. For severe infestations, follow-up treatments may be necessary.

Stop poisoning yourself, your pets, or your children with conventional pest control products THAT DON’T WORK. These products not only harm you and your loved ones, they can be metabolized by the problem insect only to make them stronger and more capable of resisiting further treatments with pesticides. Join in the green movement, use Wondercide.

Recently, Wondercide has received many calls and questions regarding mosquitoes. ’Why can’t I get rid of them this year?’, ’Nothing is working to repel them.’ With these questions and concerns, Wondercide was prompted to do some extensive research regarding this pesky flying insect. Our results concluded that these aren’t your typical mosquitoes, they are in many cases, an invasive species that is extremely difficult to eradicate.

The Asian Tiger Mosquito (Aedes albopictus) is one of the world’s worst invasive species and is characterized by its small black and white body with black and white striped legs.

Female Asian Tiger Mosquito

It is native to the tropical and subtropical regions of S.E. Asia, but since 1967 has spread to other countries including Europe, the Americas, the Caribbean, Africa, and the Middle East. They are successfully adapting themselves to cooler regions, where they are able to hibernate over winter (they can even tolerate snow and temperatures below freezing).

First found in North America in a shipment of used tires to the Port of Houston in 1985, this species has established themselves and spread across the southern U.S. They have reached as far North East as Maine. In Texas, there are many reports in South (coastal areas), Central (Austin, Georgetown), and North (DFW) areas. Tiger Mosquitoes are known to carry diseases such as West Nile Virus, yellow fever virus & dengue virus to name a few. The tiger mosquito is also of concern to veterinary practitioners, in that they are transmitters of a parasitic round worm that causes heartworm in dogs and cats.

This species has been proven very difficult to eradicate due to their adaptability to various environments, their close proximity to humans, and their reproductive biology. They are unlike typical mosquitoes in that they do not require standing water to breed and lay eggs. Even an ounce of water in the bottom of a flower pot will suffice for the female to lay her eggs. They are generally found near humans and their typical feeding time is during the day between the hours of 10am and 3pm, which means that early morning spraying and government run mosquito abatement programs will do little to affect the population (adult or otherwise). Their short flight range is an almost assurance that the breeding location will be found close to the mosquito. Treating your property with EcoTreat Pro as needed will eliminate the egg layer cycle and greatly reduce the population on your property. They will likely NOT fly in from your neighbors once you have the property under control.

Whether you are at home or away this summer, Wondercide has the answer mosquito magnets are looking for! Our all natural, non-toxic, 100% effective solutions will provide substantial relief from these insects. Visit us at wondercide.com for a complete list of products and descriptions. Live Green & Live Longer!

BRINGING HOME LOCAL

Practically no one lives on a farm anymore. We all do our best to find fresh, safe food in the organic isles of the grocery store, but it is not the same as growing your own.

It has never been easier to create a beautiful, organic garden in your own yard. Growganics can make your dreams of organic gardens come true. Let us lead the way into a new way of eating locally.

WHY A HOME GARDEN?

In a world increasingly seeking answers to global issues of pollution, global warming, and social responsibility, a movement is growing toward eating more locally.

An edible landscape helps to make your outdoor space productive. It brings organic produce to your doorstep, and gives you an opportunity to be a part of the process of growing food.

Heirloom varieties of vegetables are selected for outstanding flavor and hardiness, and no one who has tasted a fresh heirloom veggie would disagree: food grown at home simply tastes better.

DID YOU KNOW?…..

• Residential lawns take up 23 million acres of land in the U.S.

• Americans spend $30 billion per year for lawn care.

• 270 billion gallons of water a week are used to water U.S. lawns. That’s enough to water 81 million acres of organic vegetables for a summer!

• $5.25 billion per year is spent on fossil fuel derived fertilizers for lawn care—much this ends up as pollution in our surface and groundwater. Switching to organic fertilizer and compost would eliminate a good part of this pollution.

• 80 million gallons of gasoline are used to mow lawns each year. A percent of this creates air pollution due to evaporation and pollutes groundwater due to spillage.

• Running a gas-powered lawn mower for an hour produces pollution equivalent to driving a car for 20 miles.

• $700 million is spent every year on 67 million pounds of synthetic pesticides are used in the upkeep of U.S. lawns each year, the majority polluting our surface and groundwater.

• Still need convincing? The average lawn in the U.S. is approximately 1/3 of an acre. That’s enough space to keep a family of 6 in organic vegetables year round and still have a small patch of grass! So next time you have the urge to plant something, make it edible!

WHO WE ARE

Missy and Francesca met while volunteering at the American Botanical Council, where they double dug a garden bed together. It was clear that they were meant to garden together, and so Growganics was born.

Francesca was raised by an herbalist, and has always known that plants are important to humans. She has been digging in the dirt and planting things for as long as she can remember, and holds a degree in Landscape Architecture. Her own gardens have been a source of constant delight and inspiration, and have helped her to realize that sustainability begins at home. †Missy cultivated her love of nature and interest in human’s interaction with the Earth teaching middle school science in public schools for 20 years.

In recent years, Missy helped customers at Whole Foods Market to expand their culinary horizons and worked on the Global Marketing Team to spread the good word of natural and organic products.

Using her own yard as a giant laboratory, she has experimented over the years with various techniques for coaxing things to flourish and to provide food and beauty.

WHAT WE DO

Growganics will come to your home and conduct a thorough analysis of your yard in order to determine where the ideal growing area is. Through a process of hands-on consultation, we will determine what size, shape, and style of raised bed garden is right for you and your family.

We will install your garden bed, bringing in high-grade, organic soil, compost and a variety of heirloom starts that you will have pre-selected.

No garden will be installed without a drip-irrigation system on a timer. This, and the weekly maintenance provided by our gardeners make your garden practically foolproof.

Seasonal rotation of crops and organic pest management are included in our service, and we are happy to involve you in all of our maintenance activities.

Whether you want a hassle-free organic landscape, or a backyard learning experience, Growganics can help you achieve the garden you desire.

How does it Work on Ants in Texas? Read what this southern lady had to say!

OK. Had to tell yall this. The other day Marty sprayed Wondercide on an ant pile that he had been trying to get rid of for months. He was so impressed that the ants died as soon as he sprayed them with the product. He had used several other products on the same mound and the ants kept returning. It has been 2 weeks sence he used Wondercide on that ant mound, and we haven’t seen one ant! He is really a Wondercide believer now.
He sprays it on everything!

That’s True! Wondercide works wonders on Ants! And you CAN use it on everything! Thanks Ms. K!

Wondercide customer review:

you should have seen me when I was first trying it…….I was used to spraying the dogs and watching the fleas hop off and squirm and climb on me and do any number of Olympic things…I squirted the dogs feet…they didnt do anything…didn’t move…hummmm….strange….so I came back out and they were still exactly on the dog where I squirted them…..well darn it didn’t work I thought….then I looked at them and they were dead…so I came in and got an empty margarine container and just lightly misted it..went back outside and finding fleas is no problem since they are climbing up your legs very quickly….caught a couple and dropped them into the margarine container….wow not even a twitch…so I collected more…same thing….

I’m standing in the front yard staring into this margarine container giggling madly…someone came down the sidewalk and stared at this crazy lady and I held out the container and said THEY”RE DEAD and grinned like a Cheshire Cat. Then I figured I’d better go inside before the men with the white coats came. Then went straight to the phone and the email and starting raving about actually killing them.

Every day my friends would say….what are you spraying with today….are they dead yet?…..And I’m one of these people that has a cabinet full of herbs and stuff that I try and treat everyone with instead of resorting to so many synthethic things. I am so amazed this works! Thanks Wondercide!

Wondercide Customer Email Excerpt:

Living in Florida in tropical conditions we never have a respite against parasites, it’s 12 months a year fight with some times being worse than other times, right now it’s the flea time and we have incredible fleas that nothing kills. Having sprayed the yard with every chemical on the shelf, powders, granules, and using spot ons, baths, dips on the dogs with no let up I was absolutely overjoyed with the way Evolv killed the fleas on contact. I couldn’t believe it….one little squirt and they didn’t even twitch again…YAY….and no poison. We’ve been having winds of 20 mph so haven’t had a chance to spray the yard without it winding up a mile away so have just been spraying the dogs.

When I did my little flea killed experiment and it worked I got on the computer and emailed all my animal friends…..YAY this works…it actually WORKS…..made me want to go out and find a tick and try it ( thank heavens we don’t have any right now)…last year we had the tick invasion and NOTHING killed them….even put right on them and they were still moving….which of course went around the neighborhood and the next street..the ticks were so bad when walking down the street you could see them coming out from the yards and crawling on the sidewalks.

Wondercide is very excited to announce that one of their interns for the 2009-2010 school year has been awarded the Via Real Restaurant scholarship for the best written essays.

Applicants were asked to write 3 essays regarding past, present, and future hopes and accomplishments in ways to better the community and the environment. Amanda submitted her essays in early March, and the award winners were notified at the end of April. She was awarded the top scholarship prize of $4000 over the next 2 semesters, and with her award plans to continue on her path of earning her marine biology degree in 2010.

We are excited for Amanda, and eager to have her on our team for the start of the bug season.
